From punk vibe to family flair
Prenzlauer Berg is a district which clearly demonstrates the recent social transformation and the emergence of current trends in Berlin.
Back in the 1980s and 90s, this neighbourhood was a hotspot for non-conformist subcultures and bohemians of all kinds. Nowadays, it's all gentrified and dominated by the upper middle class family-friendly atmosphere.
Run-down turn-of-the-century houses close to the Berlin Wall have been renovated to host hip cafes and restaurants, organic food stores and high-end shops, and offer accomodation for well-off urban families.
We will take a relaxed walk, see such local landmarks as the Water Tower and the Culture Brewery, check out a legendary Curry Wurst kiosk and Berlin's oldest beer garden, and take a sneaky peek at some of the remaining shabby courtyard.
